IPhone volume trouble on iPod function?

When I'm using the iPod function on my iPhone, I'm having a weird problem with volume. The volume slider thing doesn't work right...when I try to slide it it jumps back to where it was. And when this happens, the actually volume audibly changes, but in weird ways...and also when I'm in this screen the volume button on the side of the phone doesn't do anything. Should I take it in to an apple store or can I fix this myself? Also, I tried turning it off and on. This seemed to work, but it's started freaking out again.
